Writing & translating are my vocation. If a day goes by and I haven't done either, I have a sense of loss - of time and of opportunity to record the stories living in my head or to introduce somebody else's voice in a new language.

“The whole Mediterranean, the sculpture, the palm, the gold beads, the bearded heroes, the wine, the ideas, the ships, the moonlight, the winged gorgons, the bronze men, the philosophers -all of it seems to rise in the sour, pungent taste of these black olives between the teeth. A taste older than meat, older than wine. A taste as old as cold water.”

Prospero's Cell by Lawrence Durrell

I've been lucky to have many wonderful people in my life. They inspire me, encourage me, cheer me and I hope I do the same for them.
